Rocks on Hotel Phryne
I don't understand how this story is so underrated. The artstyle is simple yet so beautiful and the storyline is so captivating! I highly recommend!

Rocks on Trapped In A Webnovel As A Good-For-Nothing
Have you ever wondered why we seem to have a conspicuous overabundance of great action mangas which star an all male power "couple" at the center of their casts? A """couple""" of best """"friends""""" magnetically attracted to each other, that are literally one step away from the absolute domain of sheer homosexuality?
Hi, I'm Ivern, and I know the answer. It's because many action authors want to tell plots about charismatic gay people fighting stuff, but they self censor, since the pitiful repressed children that make up the general action audience won't be able to enjoy themselves due to their insecurities and feefees if two adult males are in a PG-13 romantic relationship of genuine affection. So they thread the line, for the sake of sales, erring on the side of queerbaiting.

This is another example of that. Honestly, it's a very good example. We have a precise characterization, with a great main character. We also have some genuinely impressive use of pathos and tension in the narrative, thanks to some graphical tricks in the art department. Which is generally very good, btw. Sure, the fights are not THE best I've seen, by choreographies or set up, but they are fairly competent, and the stakes remain high everytime.
As for the power system, it's... A pity. Because its bones are exceptionally solid, since it's coherent and clearly restrained by precise limits, but... The power set lacks identity. Nothing pops. And worse, the growth is very slow. The plot in general, while it strangely manages to keep the tension up, is somewhat snail-paced when considering the plot progression itself. 100 chapters for some basic foundation building may be realistic, but it's a lot to ask from a reader.
Recommending it, but the deliberate speed of the events here does suffocate the excitement a bit. Still, it's a work of great quality.
